Drive © 2009 Michael John Ahern
Thinking back I remember Christmas eve in 65
Me an lil brother in the back of the Chrysler with mom and dad on a drive
Headed to Auntie Mel and Uncle Bill’s for dinner and some holiday lights
It was 5 o’clock, it was already dark, the winter chill was setting outside.
No other place we’d rather be, than all together as a family, on a drive
Sweet 16 growing up in the suburbs, man I was trying to be cool
Dad’s Super Beatle was my first ride and sometimes he let me drive it to school
I saved my money, went to an auction, and bought me a 64 Scout
It was Cal-Trans orange, it had three on the floor, and in the summer the top could come off
Those teenage years the road never ends
no place I’d rather be than with my friends, on a drive, on a drive
Driving down the road singing along, 8 track playing all night long on a drive
Oh some say the road goes on forever
Some say the road will never end
Finding our way through out our lives alone and together and on we drive, on we drive
Met my Cherie in 98, pretty soon I knew she was the one
A few years later I found the courage, I proposed in 2001
Had the night planned driving into the City man, we were running late
I asked for her hand right there stuck in traffic, you know I just couldn’t wait
No other place I’d rather be, than with my sweet bride to be
On a drive,on a drive
No other place I’d rather be, than with my sweet Cherie
On a drive on a drive
Those teenage years the road never ends
no place I’d rather be than with my friends
on a drive, on a drive
No other place we’d rather be, than all together as a family, on a drive, on a drive

Boards and Bricks © 2009 Michael John Ahern
The Black cat calls and I hear your name
Boards and bricks Things will never be the same
You Lit out broke and dirty After all the things we tried
Boards and Bricks so cold and dark inside
the time comes the whisky burns your pain Boards and Bricks and ill gotten gains
You call it Resurrection call it better time and place
Boards and Bricks Things will never be the same
People tell me your crazy I know you hear that all the time
People call you drunk and lazy once a friend of mine
Drop to keys solo over verse form to guitar over bridge then drop back from git tag to coda and quite
Time passes but the smell remains
The mornings get harder With each passing day
Ain’t no winning No, just trying not to loose
Boards and Bricks pills, smoke and booze
People call you crazy I guess you hear that all the time
People call you drunk and lazy Old friend of mine add melody line
People call you crazy I know you hear that all the time all the time now
People call you drunk and lazy You were once a friend of mine
friend of mine
oh friend of mine
oh friend of mine

The Taxman came, and told my mama,
that a big city lawyer done bought the bank
He gonna raise the rates, on our 30 year mortgage,
and build some condos across the street
He flew in for the day, in a fancy new jet, and he’s partners with the Japanese
The word is he’s thinking, that his shit ain’t a stinking,
and he do just what he please
Well this country boy got A’s in school though I never was a teacher’s pet
Friday night lights, church on Sunday, and hanging with my best friends
The recruiters called, it was off to college, so I headed to Mississippi State.
There I did my learning, but I never stopped a yearning,
to get back before it was too late
I was gone, gone, gone, too long
Felt wrong, wrong, wrong, so wrong
By the time I got back, things had changed, daddy was a losing steam
He had started brawling, when Monsanto came a calling,
and told him he was stealing their genes
Then Katrina came and unleashed hell
And washed across our land
Daddy got the cancer and God didn’t answer
And we buried him in the sand
He was gone, gone, gone, he was gone
Felt so wrong, wrong, wrong, so wrong
Sometimes life comes at you like an old freight train
Sometimes it’s carrying love, sometimes it’s carrying pain
Lately I’ve been thinkin, when I get to drinkin, that I need to take a drive
With some good old boys, my ol shotgun , and show that banker a surprise
Let him know, that we ain’t going go, down without a fight
And if he ever wants to fly again in that jet, then he better do what right
Or else he’s gone, gone, gone, he’ll be gone
Cause he’s wrong, wrong, wrong..he’s wrong
Or else he’s gone, gone, gone, he’ll be gone
Cause he’s wrong, wrong, wrong..he’s wrong

Hey momma momma going down the mighty river
Gonna burn some game get me black mojo
Pick it up slowly going to spin it around
Going to take it down and tumble now really really low
Low net baby goin’ pray on a Sunday
Going smear it all around with the blood and the goo
Going feel it all around light the rocket in this town
Going take it off baby going bring it on slow swamp dance
I’ve been running baby
since I found you lookin for the crow in candle at night
Thinking bayou baby
my feet are muddy and my eyes are bloody
out of sight out of sight
No mount’ of lovin goin hold you down

Heaven © 2003 Michael John Ahern
Driving down a County Road
Taking it really slow
It’s Heaven.. Heaven .. here on earth
My baby she is doing fine
She’s with me now all the time
It’s Heaven Heaven here on earth
Going downtown on a Saturday night, drinking with my friends
Sunday morning I go to church, there I make amends
It’s Heaven Heaven here on earth
Moonlight on the trees
I feel the evening breeze
It’s Heaven Heaven here on earth
Livin in the house my daddy built, raising up my kin
Driving through the fields in September sun, picking up those kids again
It’s Heaven Heaven here on earth
Now when I die… working this land
Won’t you bury me here …I’m a country man
It’s Heaven Heaven here on earth
It’s Heaven Heaven here on earth

There are places I use to go I don’t go no more
There are things I used to do I don’t do no more
Company I use to keep I don’t keep no more
There were words I used to say I just don’t say no more
Though I want to sometimes
There were games I used to play I don’t play those games no more
And the touble I used keep well I just don’t keep no more, no more

You Had Too Much
05:15
|
|||
Hey my friend I think it’s a sin
What?
The way you’ve been soppin’ up this gin
Cause you’ve had too much
You’re crazy!
Ah, you had too much
You will never be the same, because you’ve had too much.
Now look here women, you know you can’t fool me
What’s the matter?
Mama you ain’t what you used to be.
Cause you’ve had too much
Too much of what?
Ah, you’ve had too much
That’s alright.
You will never be the same, because, you’ve had too much
Now, let me tell you somethin’
You used to be the best man in town, now you just can hardly move around.
Because you’ve had too much.
I ain’t had enough yet baby!
Ah, yes you’ve had too much.
You can’t stop that
You will never be the same, because you’ve had too much.
Now, listen, mama
You can try all your might
But there’s nothing you can do, you can’t look right
Cause you’ve had too much.
You don’t know that!
Ah, you’ve had too much
You know that ain’t so!
You can’t be the same, because you’ve had too much
Now you know one time
There was a time I could them all in a row.
But you lost your pep, mama, ten long years ago.
Cause you’ve had too much.
Is that so?
Ah, you’ve had too much.
Well I’ll never change then. [spoken]
But you will never be the same, because you’ve had too much.
From your feet up to your neck,
Look like you’ve been in a terrible wreck.
Because you’ve had too much.
That’s just a lie!
Oh, yes, you’ve had too much.
How would you know?
Child, you’ll never be the same, because you’ve had too much
You used to be a man that had everything.
But the last thing you had ‘s sinkin’ down the drain
Because you had too much.
No, I never!
Oh, yes you did, child, you had too much.
You know what I think?
And you’ll never be the same, because you’ve had too much

She's the One

She’s The One © 2005 Michael John Ahern
It started so simple
and I’m glad that it stayed that way
Loving a women like her gets easier every day
It really don’t matter what’s going on outside,
Cause when she’s in my arms, I feel my love come alive
She’s the one The only one
I count my blessings and thank god for what I’ve found
How did she find me in that broken hearted side of town?
She knows the difference between wrong and right
She likes it when I stay up with my friends late at night
She’s the one The only one
Tell me one thing about her, and I’ll tell you a thousand more
Like how it feels…… when she walks in through my door…..
She’s the one
The only one (repeat out)

I Bleed For You (Live)

I Bleed For You © 2005 Michael John Ahern
They say Jesus walked on the water, man I wish I had his shoes
Cause everywhere I look now there seems like something I got to do
Surrounded by aggravation and held back by the hands they call time
I'm prone to exaggeration, I’m reved up but I’m willing to pay the fine
No matter what I do or say my love for you is here to stay I bleed for you
I set up early then I hold on tight
Here comes my circus the project x band is here tonight
This band of friends drawn by the light of fame
This kind of life drives a man insane
No matter what I do or say my love for you is here to stay
No matter where I go or stay I bleed for you
Lord I wish I was an average man
Living in an average land
Making all my average plans
but that aint me no I bleed for you
I bleed for You
They say Jesus walked on the water, man I wish I had his shoes

So Done With You (Live)
05:43
|
|||
So Done With You © 2005 Michael John Ahern
Six fifteen in the evening, I get another call
your drinking down at the Landing
instead of working at the mall
Your constant agitation
Your worries and your lies
They’ve choked out all the reason
To keep this love alive
I’m so done with you, I can’t imagine
How any man can be with you
You’re the devils own companion
Maybe he can see you through
In your pain and your madness
I’ve done all I will do
I’m so done with you
Thank god there ain’t no baby
But Lord knows we did try
Maybe it’s the good lord saying
There ain’t no you and I
If I keep on trying
To mask and bend the pain
I’ll wind up 6ft under
And you’ll wind up insane
I’m so done with you, I can’t imagine
How any man can be with you
You’re the devils own companion
Maybe he can see you through
In your pain and your madness
I’ve done all I will do
I’m so done with you
