This song was written by Stephen Stills when he was in Manassas, an American rock band, formed by Mr. Stills in 1971. The nucleus of the band had already backed Stills on his July 1971 album, Stephen Stills 2, and in May 1972, the double album, Manassas, was released. Down The Road was released in 1973, but in October of that year the band split up. This occurred just after Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were re-united on stage, during a Manassas concert, at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom. Passarelli and Lala went to Stills' backing band. Harris, Perkins and Hillman joined the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band.

lyrics

Falling and spinning
Losing and winning
Keeping my head
Watching for signals
Wearisome vigil
Was I mislead
I remember you said
That you don't want to forget me
It doesn't matter Which of our fantasies fail

Every tomorrow
Looking tomorrow
A piece of today
Run a bit faster
Here comes the catcher
Making his play
You had better not stay
You will soon be surrounded
It doesn't matter
Which of our fantasies stay

Lonely and winsome calling
For someone living right now
Something is shallow ugly and hollow
Doesn't even allow you to want to know how
You might live for the living
Give for the giving moment by moment
One day at a time It doesn't matter
It's nothing but dreaming anyhow
