Drive 04:09
Drive © 2009 Michael John Ahern Thinking back I remember Christmas eve in 65 Me an lil brother in the back of the Chrysler with mom and dad on a drive Headed to Auntie Mel and Uncle Bill’s for dinner and some holiday lights It was 5 o’clock, it was already dark, the winter chill was setting outside. No other place we’d rather be, than all together as a family, on a drive Sweet 16 growing up in the suburbs, man I was trying to be cool Dad’s Super Beatle was my first ride and sometimes he let me drive it to school I saved my money, went to an auction, and bought me a 64 Scout It was Cal-Trans orange, it had three on the floor, and in the summer the top could come off Those teenage years the road never ends no place I’d rather be than with my friends, on a drive, on a drive Driving down the road singing along, 8 track playing all night long on a drive Oh some say the road goes on forever Some say the road will never end Finding our way through out our lives alone and together and on we drive, on we drive Met my Cherie in 98, pretty soon I knew she was the one A few years later I found the courage, I proposed in 2001 Had the night planned driving into the City man, we were running late I asked for her hand right there stuck in traffic, you know I just couldn’t wait No other place I’d rather be, than with my sweet bride to be On a drive,on a drive No other place I’d rather be, than with my sweet Cherie On a drive on a drive Those teenage years the road never ends no place I’d rather be than with my friends on a drive, on a drive No other place we’d rather be, than all together as a family, on a drive, on a drive

The Taxman came, and told my mama, that a big city lawyer done bought the bank He gonna raise the rates, on our 30 year mortgage, and build some condos across the street He flew in for the day, in a fancy new jet, and he’s partners with the Japanese The word is he’s thinking, that his shit ain’t a stinking, and he do just what he please Well this country boy got A’s in school though I never was a teacher’s pet Friday night lights, church on Sunday, and hanging with my best friends The recruiters called, it was off to college, so I headed to Mississippi State. There I did my learning, but I never stopped a yearning, to get back before it was too late I was gone, gone, gone, too long Felt wrong, wrong, wrong, so wrong By the time I got back, things had changed, daddy was a losing steam He had started brawling, when Monsanto came a calling, and told him he was stealing their genes Then Katrina came and unleashed hell And washed across our land Daddy got the cancer and God didn’t answer And we buried him in the sand He was gone, gone, gone, he was gone Felt so wrong, wrong, wrong, so wrong Sometimes life comes at you like an old freight train Sometimes it’s carrying love, sometimes it’s carrying pain Lately I’ve been thinkin, when I get to drinkin, that I need to take a drive With some good old boys, my ol shotgun , and show that banker a surprise Let him know, that we ain’t going go, down without a fight And if he ever wants to fly again in that jet, then he better do what right Or else he’s gone, gone, gone, he’ll be gone Cause he’s wrong, wrong, wrong..he’s wrong Or else he’s gone, gone, gone, he’ll be gone Cause he’s wrong, wrong, wrong..he’s wrong

Hey my friend I think it’s a sin What? The way you’ve been soppin’ up this gin Cause you’ve had too much You’re crazy! Ah, you had too much You will never be the same, because you’ve had too much. Now look here women, you know you can’t fool me What’s the matter? Mama you ain’t what you used to be. Cause you’ve had too much Too much of what? Ah, you’ve had too much That’s alright. You will never be the same, because, you’ve had too much Now, let me tell you somethin’ You used to be the best man in town, now you just can hardly move around. Because you’ve had too much. I ain’t had enough yet baby! Ah, yes you’ve had too much. You can’t stop that You will never be the same, because you’ve had too much. Now, listen, mama You can try all your might But there’s nothing you can do, you can’t look right Cause you’ve had too much. You don’t know that! Ah, you’ve had too much You know that ain’t so! You can’t be the same, because you’ve had too much Now you know one time There was a time I could them all in a row. But you lost your pep, mama, ten long years ago. Cause you’ve had too much. Is that so? Ah, you’ve had too much. Well I’ll never change then. [spoken] But you will never be the same, because you’ve had too much. From your feet up to your neck, Look like you’ve been in a terrible wreck. Because you’ve had too much. That’s just a lie! Oh, yes, you’ve had too much. How would you know? Child, you’ll never be the same, because you’ve had too much You used to be a man that had everything. But the last thing you had ‘s sinkin’ down the drain Because you had too much. No, I never! Oh, yes you did, child, you had too much. You know what I think? And you’ll never be the same, because you’ve had too much

She’s The One © 2005 Michael John Ahern It started so simple and I’m glad that it stayed that way Loving a women like her gets easier every day It really don’t matter what’s going on outside, Cause when she’s in my arms, I feel my love come alive She’s the one The only one I count my blessings and thank god for what I’ve found How did she find me in that broken hearted side of town? She knows the difference between wrong and right She likes it when I stay up with my friends late at night She’s the one The only one Tell me one thing about her, and I’ll tell you a thousand more Like how it feels…… when she walks in through my door….. She’s the one The only one (repeat out)

So Done With You © 2005 Michael John Ahern Six fifteen in the evening, I get another call your drinking down at the Landing instead of working at the mall Your constant agitation Your worries and your lies They’ve choked out all the reason To keep this love alive I’m so done with you, I can’t imagine How any man can be with you You’re the devils own companion Maybe he can see you through In your pain and your madness I’ve done all I will do I’m so done with you Thank god there ain’t no baby But Lord knows we did try Maybe it’s the good lord saying There ain’t no you and I If I keep on trying To mask and bend the pain I’ll wind up 6ft under And you’ll wind up insane I’m so done with you, I can’t imagine How any man can be with you You’re the devils own companion Maybe he can see you through In your pain and your madness I’ve done all I will do I’m so done with you
